Class Descriptions

Art Classes
Art classes will explore different media including drawing, painting, sculpture, and various craft activities.  It will focus on fun introductory activities with these media.  Activities will teach and reinforce art concepts and principles.

Drawing Classes
Drawing classes will focus on using techniques and teach different approaches drawing.  Instruction will focus on observational skills, drawing from the imagination, use of color, shading, proportion, and composition.  Self-direction and self-reflection will also be encouraged.

Painting Classes
Painting classes will begin with focus on teaching students to master the painting medium.  Brush use, color mixing, manipulation of the paint materials.  As skills in these areas develop artistic intent and purpose will be emphasized.  Paintings will vary in subject matter from still-life, to portrait to landscape. Older youth and adult classes will be painting with heavy-bodied acrylic paint on canvas board.

Ceramics Classes
Ceramics classes will begin with the development of technical skills in hand building and/or wheel throwing.  Glazing techniques and surface decoration will be taught as well.  Ceramics students should commit to at least two months of instruction in order to provide time to develop pieces to completion.  Refinement of form and aesthetic considerations for ceramic pieces will be the focus for advanced students.
