About the Olpin Art Center

Chandler, Arizona

Matt with his son, Joe, at the Grand CanyonMatt Olpin decided to open Olpin Art Center to provide kids and adults in his community the opportunity to enjoy and learn the visual arts.  Matt loves teaching and loves art, so he is very much at home working towards this goal.

Matt has taught in public schools for nine years in Chandler, Arizona, and Lee's Summit, Missouri.  He has taught students in third and fourth grade in Chandler's Academically Talented Students (CATS) program while sponsoring art clubs after school.  He also has taught art in grades kindergarten through sixth grade.

Matt graduated summa cum laude from Central Missouri State University with a degree in Art Education in 1997.  He completed a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the same university in 2004.  His master's thesis, The Effect of Art History Examples on Children's Perceptions of their Drawings was well received by the faculty there.

Matt is married to Cecily Olpin and has a daughter, Ruby, and a son, Joe.
